Juan Pablo al Valencia Mestalla.
Juan Carlos Moreno Rodriguez, cuarto fichaje.
By Steve.
DEADLY DE LUCAS DELIVERSFC CARTAGENA - 4 GIRONA FC - 1
BY STEVE HIBBERD
Cartagena made light work beating a poor Girona side, but it was more than a coincidence that it coincided with the return of that citadel in defence, ex Arsenal, man mountain Cygan. The submarine men were awesome, inspired by imaginative play by my man of the match, ex Chelsea midfielder cum striker De Lucas. With both Hercules and Real Sociadad failing to win at home, the lead at the top of div 2a has been cut to a mere 6 points. And it all started with a shock opening goal for Girona, when Matamala scored with a sublime chip over the head of keeper Ruben, from outside the penalty area in line with the penalty spot. Only 4 mins had elapsed before Los Albinegros levelled. A De Lucas assist found Lafuente, who smashed the ball home from 15 yards. Not long after, the home side had taken the lead through a well worked goal. Clavero crossed from the left wing with inch perfect precision, finding the feet of De Lucas who gratefully side footed the ball just inside the far post.
Within 5 mins of the restart Cartagena had made it 3. Pint sized Lafuente seized onto a loose ball following a goal mouth melee, toe poking the ball past a diving keeper. On the hour mark the game was over as a spectacle. Toche played a beautiful back heel into the path of De Lucas, who unleashed an unstoppable drive into the back of the net. Twice in the remaining 30 mins, Girona could and should have scored, on both occasions guilty of missing sitters, but by then Cartagena had slipped down a few gears, fully aware that another 3 points were in the bag.
