MOLIST IS SPOT ON
FC CARTAGENA – 1 SEVILLA ATLETICO – 0
BY STEVE HIBBERD

Top scorer Xavi Molist, once again secured 3 vital points courtesy of his 1st minute goal from the penalty spot.
Sevillas ‘B’ side arrived at Cartagonova Stadium as leaders of div 2b. Last seasons corresponding match, finished honours even between 2 sides, who both qualified for the play-offs.
Ever present Caballero, paid the price for conceding 8 goals in the last 3 matches. His place as Cartagenas goalkeeper was taken by Cabrero, who had served his side well last season. Full back Rivas regained his place in the starting line up, following his 1 match ban at the expense of Rodriguez.
CARTAGENA LINE UP
CABRERO, RIVAS, ORLANDO, LUSARRETA, CHITO, MARIANO, ELIAS, TEO (RODRIGUEZ 92), SIVORI, LAFUENTE (CARMONA 80), MOLIST (SABINO 61)
High drama unfolded in the very first minute, when Sivoris’ run into the opponent’s penalty area, was unfairly halted by a clumsy tackle. Referee Roberto bravely awarded a penalty, much to the delight of an expectant home crowd. As Molist stepped forward to take the resultant spot kick, home fans waited with baited breath, praying that their hero would deliver. His aim was straight, and as keeper Veras dived, the ball sailed past the space where he once stood, into a welcoming net.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
The first half was dominated by Cartagena, as Lafuente, Elias and Sivori, all threatened to score in the first 10 mins. A delightful cross from the left wing resulted in Sivoris header narrowly missing the target on 31 mins.
Half Time: Cartagena –1 Sevilla – 0
Enter centre stage, Senor Jesus Cabrero. For the next 45 mins, he almost single handedly prevented Sevilla from scoring a goal they so richly deserved. Virtually every Andalucian player tested the agility of Cartagenas no 1, as shots rained in from all directions. Indeed, his outfield team mates, occasionally resorted to foul means to breakdown wave after wave of assaults on goal. Although the objective was achieved, it came with a price. Mariano ‘Am I bovvered’ Sanchez, saw red following his 2nd yellow of the day, after 74 mins. Joining him on a one match ban is Elias, who collected his 5th booking of the season. Also booked in stoppage time, during desperate dying seconds were Cabrero and Teo, whilst 2 players from Sevilla were punished for 1st half misdemeanours.
Attendance: 3,500
This hard fought victory, pushed Cartagena back into the play off slot, only a point behind leaders Cordoba, who recorded a narrow win at Baza (1-2). Second place Portuense, squeezed past lowly Cerro Reyes 2-3, whilst just behind them, Marbella beat Villanovense 0-1. Only 6 points now separate Cordoba from 12th place Granada, in a division that is set to be on tender hooks until the final game on 27 May.
FORTHCOMING FIXTURES
Los Albinegros visit 9th place Linares next Sun, 3 Dec, ko 5pm. The following Sun, 10 Dec, local Murcian rivals Aguilas provide the opposition, in a div 2b fixture at Cartagonova Stadium, which should be tasty to say the least!

Previa FC Cartagena - Sevilla Atlético

0 comentarios

AWAY DAY BLUES
CORDOBA CF 4 - FC CARTAGENA 2
BY STEVE HIBBERD

Not since 16 September at Ecija, have Cartagena been victorious on the road, a statistic which was only briefly threatened, last Sunday at Cordoba.
Los Albinegros started the day in 3rd place, 2 points ahead of 4th place Cordoba. Manager Amaral was once again forced to re-shuffle his starting 11. Roberto Rodriguez replaced suspended Rivas at the back. Injured Cabrejo made way for Chito, whilst free from suspension Sivori, came in for Carmona.
CARTAGENA LINE UP
CABALLERO, RODRIGUEZ (SABINO 46), LUSARRETA (VERGARA 80), ORLANDO, CHITO, MARIANO, ELIAS (CARMONA 71), TEO, SIVORI, LAFUENTE, MOLIST
Cartagena started the match brightly, with Teo forcing a good save from Valle in the Cordoba goal after 15 mins. At the other end, it was Caballeros turn to earn his keep, diving at the feet of Moreno, preventing a certain goal. Cordobas Italian centre back Pierini, almost broke the deadlock, his firm header sailed just past the post.
When Pineda watched his shot cannon off the foot of the post, Cordoba were in complete control. The inevitable happened on 30 mins, as Caballero fumbled a long range week free kick, which trickled over the line to give Cordoba the lead. Shortly after, Moreno almost doubled his tally, but although his shot beat Caballero, it also evaded the far post. Following 10 mins of relentless pressure, Cartagena hit back, courtesy of another beauty from pint size Lafuente.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Back came Cordoba. Delightful wing play, culminated in Guzman hitting an unstoppable drive which wizzed past the helpless Caballero.
HALF TIME: CORDOBA 2 CARTAGENA 1
Sabino was introduced immediately, making an instant impact. Good work by Chito released Sabino, who with his first touch of the ball lobbed the keeper and levelled the scores yet again.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
On the hour mark, the home side had regained their lead through a wonderful solo effort by Pineda, who appeared to mesmerise his opponents defence, before nonchanantly stroking the ball home. Disaster struck on 73 mins, when the normally reliable Caballero once again fumbled a free kick, this time by Moreno, and presented Cordoba with an unasaillable 2 goal advantage, despite his frantic efforts to prevent their 4th goal. Referee Hidalgo had a field day, cautioning 7 Cordoba players plus Cartagenas front men (Teo, Lafuente and Sabino).
Attendance: 7,000
FORTHCOMING FIXTURE
Once again, Cartagenas next opponents are top 4 side. Leaders Sevilla, visit Cartagonova Stadium next Sun 26 Nov, ko 5pm, hoping to go one better than last seasons draw. An impressive away record of 4 wins, 1 draw and only 1 defeat, explains why they are this seasons in-form side in div 2b. But only 2 points separate the 4 places between the 2 sides, and a win for Cartagena would see the sides swap places. Come along and watch what promises to be an exciting encounter between 2 free scoring, entertaining teams. Admission is only TEN euros for men, EIGHT euros for women/OAPs and FIVE euros for children (not bad for a top class Stadium, full of atmosphere, where a high standard of football is on display!!).

FC Cartagena 2 - Melilla 1. By Steve.

CHITO TO THE RESCUE
FC CARTAGENA - 2 UD MELILLA - 1
BY STEVE HIBBERD

Midfield maestro, super sub Fernando Chito, not only scored the winning goal, but his influence on the game was once again immense.
Melilla arrived from the Morocco mainland on the back of decent current form, having started the season indifferently. Due to an enforced switch from div 2b gp iv to gp i for a season, it has been 2 yrs since they last played at Cartagonova Stadium, when goals by Conget and Nacho secured a 2-1 victory for the home side. Last Sunday afternoon, both teams lined up to applause from a disappointingly poor crowd. Failure to clinch promotion via last seasons play offs, seems to have disillusioned thousands, as unfortunately, fans are fickle and demand success. On a positive note, more and more ex pat supporters are attending matches - enjoying what they see, and coming back regularly, as Los Albinegros maintain their unbeaten home record.
Manager Amaral was forced into making changes, following last weeks defeat at Marbella. Failure to overturn their recent red cards, meant a day off for Sivori and Sabino, as they served a one match ban. Welcome back Orlando, whose absence through injury has been sorely missed, and Teo.
CARTAGENA LINE UP
CABALLERO, RIVAS, LUSARRETA, CABREJO (CHITO 34), ORLANDO, MARIANO, ELIAS, TEO, MOLIST, LAFUENTE (ROBERTO 84), CARMONA (GALDOS 70)
The games first chance arrived when an inspired solo run, was finished by a firm shot by Elias, which was well saved inside 2 mins. A minute later, Molist connected perfectly with Cabrejos cross, but again keeper Tudela was on hand to foil Cartagenas top scorer. Teo then provided Carmona with an opportunity to open his sides account, but his effort was cleared off the line. When Molists powerful 15 yard drive hit the post after only 7mins, Melilla must have wondered exactly what had hit them!! Los Albinegros were playing well, creating many chances, an example being when Lusarreta headed inches wide from an inswinging corner. Cartagenas players were becoming frustrated at failing to score, which probably contributed to the much misunderstood Mariano "why does it always rain on me?" Sanchez, questioning arbitro Martinezs interpretation of a free kick against his team, earning him his 4th yellow of the season (only 4 - are you sure?). Lafuente was having a stormer. In quick succession, he first rounded the keeper, only to be given offside, then his 20 yarder flew agonisingly wide of the post. Good news and bad news. Chito came on to alter the course of the game, but as he entered the fray, full back Cabrejo limped off, suffering from a pulled muscle, which could sideline him for a number of weeks.
Half time: Cartagena - 0 Melilla - 0
Although Cartagena almost took the lead shortly after the restart through Teo, it was Melilla who launched a counter attack, hitting the crossbar after 50 mins. First blood went to the home side though, two mins later. Xavi Molist is hot stuff this season, scoring vital goals for this club, and his 8th goal in only 12 games was a beauty. Another scintillating piledriver from the edge of the penalty area, left keeper Tudela with only 2 hopes - and one of them was Bob!!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
On his first game for 6 weeks, Orlando picked up his 1st booking of the season for an innocuous foul. From the free kick, Caballero looked decidedly jittery as he fumbled the ball, almost conceding a goal. Having failed with an earlier 20 yard free kick, which just missed the target, that man Chito came good on 80 mins, when from the same distance, his screamer found the back of the net.
G0000000000000000000000000000000000000L
That should have been that. But with 5 mins remaining, Rivas stupidly showed dissent to the match officials, disputing whether the ball was in play or not. Having already been booked only 10 mins earlier, he looked on aghast as a further yellow, then red card, left Cartagena to play out the final few minutes with only 10 men. Melilla took full advantage of the vulnerable defence facing them. In the 2nd min of stoppage time, a cross from the left wing resulted in the normally reliable Lusarreta losing his bearings and inadvertantly steering the ball into his own net - what a bloomer, DOH!!
Attendance: 2,000
These 3 points pushed Cartagena up to 3rd place in the table, only 1 point behind leaders Sevilla 'B' and Marbella. Only 6 points separate 1st and 13th positions, in a division that is a lot more competitive than last season, but one in which a play off target is very much a realistic proposition.

FORTHCOMING FIXTURES
This coming Sunday 19 November, ko 5pm, Cartagena travel to 4th place Cordoba, hoping they can emulate last seasons hard fought 2-1 victory at the Nuevo Arcangel Stadium. Then on Sunday 26 November, Cartagena play host to pace setters Sevilla 'B', who have only lost once on their travels so far this season.

Nueva pancarta de la peña "Goto Cartago".

0 comentarios
