FC CARTAGENA - 1 SD HUESCA - 0
BY STEVE HIBBERD
Following 2 back to back demoralising defeats, Cartagena showed true character to bounce back with a hard earned victory over an adventurous Huesca side. This Saturday evening victory took them back to the top of div 2a (on goal difference), as previous leaders Real Sociadad, could only draw with Rayo Vallecano the following day.
After only 17 seconds, the visitors put the ball in the net, but although it was disallowed for offside, post match video replays showed that the goal should have stood. The normally reliable De Lucas, was guilty of missing a guilt edged chance after 15 min's, when he spooned his wayward short range shot way over the bar. He almost made amends on 23 min's, but his superb rising shot was well saved. Huesca looked a classy side, and twice within 4 min's would have taken the lead, but for the 1st effort just missing the target, whilst the 2nd slammed against the post. Then, on the stroke of half time, De Lucas took a 25 yard free kick, which lacked height, until assistance in the form of defender Juanma's back header, saw the ball loop over keeper Doblas and into the back of the net, giving Cartagena a fortuitous half time lead.
Neither side took the initiative in the 2nd half, although on 75 min's, sub Tato should have doubled the home sides lead when put through for a 1 on 1, but Doblas did well to block the shot. Shortly afterwards, Tato once again brought the best out of Doblas, when the keeper showed superb agility to push aside a goal bound curling shot. Los Albinegros never really looked likely to surrender their lead, and on 85 min's they could have added another, when Lafuente's shot was deflected just past the post.
