FC Cartagena 3 - CD Alcalá 1. By Steve.

4 MANAGERS, 3 POINTS AND A HOPE
FC CARTAGENA - 3 ALCALA - 1
BY STEVE HIBBERD

Caretaker manager, Fran Alcoy, steered his men onto an essential victory, rekindling play off aspirations for Cartagena.
Following last weeks defeat against Aguilas, Cartagenas board took drastic action by sacking our hairy friend, coach Jose Luis Montes (aka ´The Walrus´). Thus ends this seasons 3rd managers reign of 15 matches (8 wins, 3 draws and 4 defeats). A shocking sequence of 5 games without a win, yielding only 2 points, resulted in the once unthinkable prospect of life outside the play off positions. Going into this game against 8th place Alcala, Cartagena found themselves 5th, some 4 points behind Portuense. Having already won at Alcala, a double was on the cards for Los Albinegros.
Injury and suspensions, once again tested Cartagenas resources to the limit. Missing through a ban, were Leo and Orlando, whilst Lusarreta has aggravated an old injury. A recall for keeper Caballero was one of many tactical changes.

FC CARTAGENA TEAM
CABALLERO, RIVAS, OSCAR RODRIGUEZ, MARIANO SANCHEZ, CABREJO, ELIAS, MARCO, TEO (SABINO 70), SIVORI (MARCOS GUILL 84), MOLIST, OSCAR RICO (CARMONA 66)
All Cartagena players had the riot act read to them, in what surely was to be their last chance salon, if they really wanted promotion. Inside the very 1st min, Sivori produced a diving header from Molists cross, which looped over the crossbar. Although creating the best chances, it was the old old story of not being able to put them away - finely illustrated when from Teos cross, Sivori again missed the target. But, constant pressure eventually paid off dividends. Ironically, no sooner had Mariano Sanchez headed home on 38 mins from Cabrejos cross, than reports reached the stadium that Portuense had lost their early kick off match at Melilla (news that dilighted both players and fans alike).
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Half Time: Cartagena - 1 Alcala - 0

A determined Los Albinegros side started where they left off. Oscar Rico was having his best game for the club, and when his tremendous drive rattled the crossbar, Sivori hit the rebound over the top. On 54 mins, a well worked move resulted in the unfortunate Alex Ortiz unintentionally putting the ball into his own net from Molists cross, to double Cartagenas advantage.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Full back Rivas was being given plenty of freedom to attack down the right flank. One such move, resulted in his cross being headed just past the post by Molist. Later, he was called to demonstrate his defensive qualities, although his robust challenge, which prevented a dangerous move, earned him the gmes 3rd and final booking (alongside Oscar Rodrigues and Mariano Sanchez). An unusual incident saw an overhead kick by Carmona land straight to Molist, who in turn sent his overhead kick inches over the bar. With 15 mins remaining, Alcala had probably their best opportunity of the game. Caballero could only watch on, as a well taken free kick from just outside the box hit the upright, then rolled to safety.
This was definately becomming Alcalas period of supremacy, for moments later, Alex Ortiz almost made amends for his earlier bloomer, when he forced Caballero to pull off an important save. Normal service was soon resumed though, when in the dying minutes, another inch perfect assist by Molist was finely executed by Carmona, who cellebrated his 4th goal of the season in style.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Deep into stoppage time, Cartagenas defence turned into zombies, as Nando strolled past 5 of them, before planting his shot past Caballero, without a tackle being made.
Attendance: 3,500
Division 2b - top 5 positions
1. Sevilla ´B´ 72 points
2. Cordoba 69 points
3. Linares 67 points
4. Portuense 65 points
5. Cartagena 64 points

FORTHCOMING FIXTURES

With only 2 games remaining, Sevilla ´B´ have qualified for the play offs, and can´t be caught by Cartagena. The remaining 3 sides vying for play off slots (Cordoba, Linares and Portuense), are catchable, but must drop points, whilst Los Albinegros have to keep on winning. On Sunday 20 May, ko 1200 noon, Cartagena visit 16th place Extremadura. A free coach has been laid on for all Cartagena fans by the club. Unfortunately, Extremadura are also desparate for points, as they battle against the drop to div 3. Having already won by 3-1, when Extremadura visited Cartagonova Stadium back in early January, it is essential that another double is secured by Los Albinegros.
Sun 27 May ko 6pm - Cartagena v Ceuta

  2. If there's no traffic it should take you about 20 or 30 minutes but traffic is pretty common and it could therefore take you at least an hour, a taxi to the airport should cost no more than 30 Egyptian pounds but some people will try to charge you as much as 200.
