Cartagena restored some pride after last weeks home mauling, when they played well in a hard fought draw with Melilla.
Following on from a first ever win at Ceuta, the Murcia province based side made another long trip to the African subcontinent, when they visited the Spanish enclave of Melilla, in their Alvarez Claro Stadium. Previously unbeaten at home, Melilla started the game equal on points with Cartagena, who had slipped down to 7th in the div 2b table. Manager Alcoy chose to bring back fit again Lusarreta to beef up the defence, and also recalled Curro in place of Juvenal (recently returned from International duty, having played for Guinea in the world cup the previous Wednesday).

As early as the 19th min, Molist almost put Cartagena ahead, then less than a minute later, it was Toledos turn to test the home keeper.
The 2nd half belonged to Melilla, but Cartagenas rearguard held firm, suitably dealing with everything that their opponents could throw at them. Mariano and Orlando both picked up unwanted bookings.

Next week, Cartagena are away again, when they make the short trip to Baza, situated just inside the Andalucian boundry. This div 2b match against lowly Baza is on Sun 2 Dec, with a 5pm ko.
