GREAT START TO THE NEW YEAR
ALGECIRAS CF - 0 FC CARTAGENA - 2
BY STEVE HIBBERD
New manager Pichi Lucas recorded a win for the 1st time as Cartagena romped to an easy win against bottom of the table Algeciras.
In front of 1,500 fans inside the Nuevo Mirador Stadium, Los Albinegros bounced back from 2 pre christmas poor performances. With only Sivori and Charcos missing through injury, Pichi Lucas was afforded the luxury of fielding a strong side. The 1st goal arrived on 24 mins, scored by the ever improving Frenchman, Toledo. Cartagenas cause improved further, when on 28 mins, Algecias centre back Nico Chientino saw red following his x rated foul on Carmona.
Early in the 2nd half, 10 became 9 following a second yellow card shown to Algeciras front man Curro, who incredibly had only been on the field as a substitute for 13 mins. Super striker Molist settled the match in the 64th min with a well taken goal. Bookings for Ormazabal and Curro could not sour a much needed victory for Cartagena, who consequently have moved up to 8th in div 2b, only 4 points behind current leaders Ecija.
CARTAGENA LINE UP
CABALLERO, ORMAZABAL (LEO 78), LUSARRETA, CURRO (JUVENAL 61), ORLANDO, MARIANO, CABREJO, CARMONA, MOLIST, LAFUENTE (BORRELL 68), TOLEDO
FORTHCOMING FIXTURE
Real Jaen are Cartagenas next opponents on Sunday 13 January, away at the La Victoria Stadium.
