SIVORI STRIKE EARNS CARTAGENA VICTORY
REAL BETIS 'B' - 0 FC CARTAGENA - 1
BY STEVE HIBBERD
In a game virtually dominated by the home side, Cartagena put away a rare goal scoring opportunity, having ridden their luck.
Against a youthfull Real Betis second string side, Cartagena struggled to find any momentum in an uninspiring match. Keeper Caballero had to be at his very best to deny first Canamero, then his twin striker Isidro from opening their account. On the half hour mark, Caballero was at fault when he misjudged a corner, but defender Ormazabal was at hand to clear the danger from under his own crossbar. Betis did indeed get the ball into the back of the net after 40 mins, but the referee disallowed the effort for handball.
Completely against the run of play, Cartagena took the lead on 57 mins. A deep corner from Cabrejo, completely foxed the home defenders, resulting in an unmarked Sivori slotting the ball home. Although Cartagena were once again forced to stoutly defend for the rest of the match, Betis were unable to score an equalizing goal which on the balance of play they definately deserved. But hey, it's goals that count, and with 4 wins on the bounce, a play off slot is once again very much a reality for Los Albinegros, as they move up to 6th place in div 2b (only 2 points off the final play off slot). This win reversed the defeat by Betis at Cartagonova Stadium earlier in the season. There were bookings for Cartagenas Lusarreta, Orlando, Sivori and of course, the usual suspects Charcos and Mariano (plus 3 Betis players).
FC CARTAGENA LINE UP
CABALLERO, ORMAZABAL, CHARCOS, LUSARRETA (BENITEZ), CABREJO, LAFUENTE, MARIANO, ORLANDO, CARMONA, SIVORI (MOLIST), TOLEDO (KOEMAN)
