El FC Cartagena arrasa. By Steve.

CARTAGENA RUN RIOT
FC CARTAGENA - 4 UNIVERSITY LAS PALMAS FC - 0
BY STEVE HIBBERD

New coach Paco Jemez, started his campaign at Cartagena with an excellent display at Cartagonova Stadium against lowly University Las Palmas.
Following the midweek shock sacking of manager Fabri Gonzales, President Paco Gomez made Paco Jemez his 12th manager since taking over the presidency. Jemez first viewing of the team came the very next day, when he selected the side who lost 0-2 in a friendly against FC Copenhagen (Man Citys opposition in the next round of the UEFA cup), played at La Manga Club.
For this league match, he decided to make 2 changes from last weeks draw against Lorqui. Back came key players Mariano and Carmona, as Jemez decided to play a 4-4-2 formation.

The game set off at a lively pace, and as early as the 3rd min, Cartagena were ahead. An inch perfect cross by Cabrejo, was headed into the back of the net by Juan Pablo. Only 5 mins into the 2nd half, Juan Pablo doubled his teams lead, when he converted from the penalty spot, having himself been fouled, taking his seasons tally to 8. Cartagena were starting to completely dominate the match, and thought they had added a 3rd goal on the hour mark, but Armandos effort was dissallowed for offside. On 83 mins, the hard working Tato was brought down in the penalty area, allowing Cabrejo to hammer home the resulting spot kick. But the best was still to come on 88 mins. A delightful pass by Mariano found substitute Addison, who magnificently lobbed the opposition keeper from fully 20 yards out, making it 4 for his team, and his 9th of the season (top scorer). Although this was a super team performance, the pick of the bunch has to be old boys Cabrejo and Mariano.
This result leaves Cartagena still in 2nd spot, as leaders Leganes also won their div 2b match against Vecindario.
Attendance: 2,617
