CHAMPIONS - NOW FOR PROMOTION
UD MERIDA - 1 FC CARTAGENA - 1
BY STEVE HIBBERD
For the 2nd time in 4 seasons, FC Cartagena are div 2b champions. But, unlike the last time, when the team fell at the first play offs hurdle, this time the club are determined that their promotion dream will not be denied. With one game remaining, Cartagena have amassed a huge points total of 70 which cannot be overtaken. Local Murcian rivals Lorca are now 2nd on 66 points, whilst long term leaders Leganes have slipped to 3rd place, a point behind. Alcorcon have for the first time this season entered the play off slots, equal on points with Real Madrid 'B' in 4th place.
The impressive Romano Stadium (capacity 15,000), was the venue for Cartagenas last away trip of the season (excluding the forthcoming playoffs). Referee Gomez Gonzalez was probably the busiest man on the pitch, booking a host of players, including visitors Addison, Raul, Cabrejo and Ruben, who consequently are suspended for next weeks final league game (they therefore start the play offs on a clean sheet - convenient don't you think?). Ex Cartagena player Sabino led the line for Merida, and it was he who was guilty of a missed penalty, in the vital play off game, against Vecindario 3 years ago. So, it was no surprise that he gave the home side the lead on the half hour mark, with a trademark Sabino goal. Another player who featured in Cartagenas last play off appearence, struck the equalizing goal. Local lad Mariano Sanchez gave his side a priceless point when he scored after 69 mins, as neither side could add to their tally in the ensuing 20 or so mins. Manager Paco Jemez must be delighted that his side have claimed the div 2b title with a game to spare, but is also well aware that it will be a hollow victory if promotion is not achieved (he could also be looking for a new job!!).
FC Cartagena Line-up
Ruben, Txiki, Miki, Raul, Samuel, Cabrejo, Hector, Mariano, Viyuela, Addison, Tato
Forthcoming Fixture
Bottom side Villa Santa Brigada (Gran Canaria) visit Cartagonova Stadium next Sun 10 May, ko 12pm midday, for the final div 2b match of the season. For details of this, and more, contact Steve on 656579423, or visit www.gotocartago.com or www.futbolclubcartagena.com.

ResponderEliminarSteve, how much i like that a foreigner take the Efese passion as you do. Come on and keep on.
ResponderEliminarCheers.
My ct is very big. Olé the dick of my efesé!!!
ResponderEliminarNow it's the time! Some like other rivals but I'd personally prefer Cadiz with the last game in Cartagonova and celebrate it in a colective extacsy at home!!
