CARTAGENA APPOINT NEW MANAGER
BY STEVE HIBBERD
Juan Ignacio Martinez Jimanez (to be known forthwith as JIM or Jim - good eh?), has been appointed as the new manager/coach at FC Cartagena. Aged 45, Jim hails originally from Torrevieja (but we won't hold that against him - although most Los Albinegros fans do!!), and started his football management career at Mar Menor. From there he moved to FC Cartagena, where he won the div 2b championship for Los Albinegros before falling at the 1st play off hurdle against Vecindario, resulting in him receiving the order of the boot! Salamanca offered him a new position, which he rewarded by guiding them up to div 2a.

He then, fairly successfully, managed Albacete, another div 2a club, thus alerting Cartagena President Paco Gomez of his ability to supervise at a higher level. This time around, Jim (and the fans) will hope that he can survive more than the solitary season which his ruthless president previously permitted.
The battle to discover which 2 teams will join Cartagena and Cadiz in promotion to div 2a, has finally been whittled down to 4 teams. Alcorcon (winners over Alcoyano) face the much fancied Real Union, whilst Villarreal 'B' have a tough tie ahead against Andalucian based Real Jaen (both matches are over 2 legs). As both 1st leg matches resulted in 0-0 draws, all 4 teams must feel that they have an excellent chance of promotion.
More good news for Cartagena, came when their 2nd string side were promoted into div 3. Cartagena Efese, or Cartagena FC, have won promotion from the preferentia div following a 3-1 victory over Puente Tocinos.

Hay que ver, nadie le da las gracias a este hombre que hace crónicas en Inglés de nuestro querido Cartagena.
