Cada vez mejor. By Steve.

IT JUST GETS BETTER
FC CARTAGENA - 2 CD CASTELLON - 1
BY STEVE HIBBERD

Three goals in the opening 9 mins, provided an explosive start to this enthralling div 2b match. Four games into the season, Cartagena not only find themselves sitting pretty at the top of the division, but more importantly, they remain unbeaten (won 3, drew 1). Added to this, a forthcoming Copa del Rey fixture in Salamanca on 7 Oct, and it's easy to see why Presidente Paco Gomez and his entrusted manager JIM, are currently on a crest of a wave. Their cock a hoop troops are doing them, and the adoring fans, proud.
Last season, Los Albinegros played in front of gates averaging a mere 3,000, whereas this current campaign has seen a colossal increase of over 300%. Who says fans are fickle? It's not just that their team are winning, it's the hugely entertaining manner in which they are doing it. A massive, best of the season, 10,000 expectant fans were in fine voice as the men from Valencia arrived on the scene. Not having had the best of starts to the season, Castellon arrived at the foot of the table, having taken just 1 point from their first 3 matches. What was to follow left them deeper in the mire.

It was the bald headed, ex Arsenal star, Frenchman Cygan who opened the scoring after only 4 mins of play. A De Lucas free kick into the area, was met with the head of Cygan, who made no mistake. Although Dani Pendin equalized for the visitors only 2 mins later, with a fantastic overhead kick, the diminutive wingman Lafuente, restored his sides advantage, scoring a cracker from the edge of the penalty area. After such an explosive start to the game, you could be excused for expecting a goal feast - wrong!! Castellon elected to employ alehouse tactics, kicking everything that moved, resulting in the ref booking 5 of them - plus Mariano (no surprise there then!!). All in all, this was another extremely competent display, from a team that is currently oozing with supreme confidence.
