Golpe de efecto en Cádiz. By Steve.

CARTAGENA CANE CRUDE CADIZ
CADIZ CF - 1 FC CARTAGENA - 3
BY STEVE HIBBERD

Not only does this win extend Cartagenas unbeaten league div 2a run to 7 matches, more importantly it catapaults them back to the top, level on 15 points with Real Sociadad, and a point clear of Rayo Vallecano and Hercules.
Last season both teams earned promotion from div 2b as champions of their respective groups, then in a 2 legged champion of champions match, Cadiz were crowned kings. This season, both teams have performed far better than that expected of rookie clubs. Cartagena manager JIM returned to his tried and tested regulars, following the midweek cup defeat at Salamanca.
Inside a packed Ramon de Carranza Stadium, Cadiz showed their intentions early on, finely illustrated when Cartagenas keeper Ruben came out well to thwart a 1 on 1 with Cadiz striker Caballero. From a corner, the impressive Ogbeche so very nearly put the home side ahead on 25 mins, but his powerful header inched the wrong side of the far post. Less than a min later, Ogbeche came close again, but again his header missed the target. Completely against the run of play, Cartagena took the lead on 32 mins. A delightful through ball by Mariano found Toche, who took the ball in his stride before nutmegging the goalkeeper.. With 1 min, 17 secs of 1st half stoppages having been played (a maximum of 1 min had been shown by the 4th official), it was Victor who provided a superb assist for De Lucas to beat a defender, before lashing his shot past the keeper for goal no 2.

Inside 2 mins of the restart, Cartagena were 3 up. A superbly taken corner found the head of Cygan, who in turn found Victor in position to nod the ball past a helpless keeper. Amazingly, this was only Los Albinegros 3rd shot on target, and already the game looked over for Cadiz. Now it got ugly! Cadiz are a good footballing side, but frustration got the better of them, culminating in 5 of their players picking up bookings for a combination of cynical fouls, diving and dissent (nil for the good guys!). As a last throw of the dice, Cadiz threw on ex Deportivo and West Ham Striker Diego Tristan, and the gamble almost payed off, but he missed a stonewall sitter. Cadiz did get a late consolation goal through Argentinian Toedtli, but the last word was left to Cartagena sub Tato, who when through on goal with just the keeper to beat, hung his head in disbelief as play was brought back for an earlier infringement (possibly the only blemish in an otherwise superb refereeing performance).
