Ligero traspiés para Los Albinegros. By Steve.

SLIGHT BLIP FOR LOS ALBINEGROS
FC CARTAGENA - 1 REAL BETIS - 2
BY STEVE HIBBERD

Although defeat to Real Betis ended a 6 match unbeaten run, Cartagena are still handily placed to gain promotion to La Liga at the end of the season. Some 3 points separate them from 4th place Levante, closely followed by Numancia in 5th and Real Betis in 6th. Seville based Betis brought 700 partisan fans, helping to swell the crowd to a seasons best 12,300. Betis got off to an explosive start, scoring after only 6 mins through a powerful drive from the edge of the box by Garcia. Moments later, Lafuente almost squared proceedings but his shot just eased over the bar. Ruben pulled off a couple of great saves to prevent Betis increasing their lead, but just before the interval, Toche really should have scored for the home side, instead he shot horribly wide of an open goal.

It required another tremendous 2nd half save by Ruben to prevent Betis scoring a certain goal. On 50 mins, Betis did double their lead through a headed goal by Aurelio. What proved to be only a consolation goal for Cartagena, was scored by a combination of 2 substitutes. A fine run down the right wing by Balboa, resulted in his cross being side footed home by striker Tato, for his 3rd goal of the season.
