A carnival atmosphere of 14,500 fans packed inside Cartagonova Stadium to witness Cartagena record a well deserved victory over 7th place Numancia. Free t shirts were distributed to all Cartagena fans - a nice touch - as a thank you for all their loyal support. With Real Sociadad only drawing, the gap at the top is now down to only 3 points - Cartagena lying joint 2nd with Levante (top 3 are automatically promoted). Although Numancia had the lions share of the 1st half, it was the home side who came closest to scoring when Toche saw his firm header rattle the cross bar. Keeper Ruben was awesome, saving many certain goals as the half finished goalless.
Numancia took the lead on 53 mins, when a header across goal was met by the head of Nano, giving Ruben no chance. Sub Lafuente pulled back the ball from the dead ball line, giving Toche the opportunity to slam the ball home for the equaliser after 74 mins. With only 7 mins remaining, Victor (also on as a 2nd half sub) squared the ball to Toche, who once again clinically finished with aplomb. This brace, pushed Cartagena's top goal scorer up to 20 (17 league, 3 cup) goals for the season, and also earned his team a much needed 3 points in their quest for promotion and the right to play Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia etc.
