Otra vez Raimondi. By Steve.

RAIMONDI DOES IT AGAIN
FC CARTAGENA - 1 SABADELL FC - 0
BY STEVE HIBBERD

Uruguayan striker Raimondi came to Los Albinegros rescue last Saturday, when he scored the all important winning goal against Catalonian based side Sabadell. This first win for 3 matches, moves Cartagena up to the edge of the relegation zone, level with Villarreal 'B' on 23 points. Manager Carlos Rios created an unusual club record, when he used 23 different players in his first 6 matches in charge. Captain Mariano, sent off at Barcelona last week, took his place in the starting line up, following his successful appeal of the 2nd yellow card. January window signing Braulio, found himself in a great position to score after only 35 seconds, but his luke warm shot was safely gathered by Sabadell keeper Navas.

In a disappointing 1st half, Raimondi should have done better, but headed straight at Navas, then just before the interval, a near post header by Lafuente was cleared to safety. On 56 mins, Raimondi made up for his earlier miss, when from a Dimas cross, he made no mistake with a powerful header which sailed into the back of the net. Up to now, Sabadell had offered very little in terms of attacking endeavor, but following the introduction of 2 substitutes, they started to look dangerous.

From a free kick, which penetrated a sea of players, defender Gaspar cleared off the line to prevent a certain equalizer. Although the game (especially the 1st half) was not one for the purest, it was littered with yellow cards, of which the home side won 7-4!! As a consequence, both Kijera and Dimas will now sit out the next match through suspension. Next week Cartagena make the lengthy trip to Madrid, to play 8th place Alcorcon. This div 2a match is on Sat 25 Feb, ko 6pm, and will be shown live on 7RM. For regular updates on FC Cartagena, visit www.nosoloefese.es or www.futbolclubcartagena.com.
