Debacle en el derbi. By Steve.

DERBY DAY DEBACLE
MAZARRON CF - 2 FC CARTAGENA
BY STEVE HIBBERD

Following on from last weeks win over local rivals Lorca, Cartagena somehow contrived to press the self destruct button against Mazarron, in this latest Murcian derby clash.
Only one team change from last weeks win confronted Cartagenas 300+ faithful, who made the short trip to Mazarrons tiny Municipal Stadium. The swapping of Lusarreta and Curro in the central defensive role, seems to becoming a regular (but unsettling) tactic by manager Alcoy, with Lusarreta the latest to get the yes vote.
FC CARTAGENA LINE UP
CABALLERO, ORMAZABAL, CHARCOS (JUVENAL 46), LUSARRETA (TOLEDO 61), CABREJO, ORLANDO, MARIANO, CARMONA, SIVORI, LAFUENTE (CHITO 46), MOLIST

Mazarron took the game by the scruff of the neck, with their outstanding midfield general Ortega running the show. No surprise then, when the home side took a well deserved lead after 22 mins. When Ortega won the ball from Charcos, he laid it off perfectly to Carrasco, who in turn gobbled up the chance of scoring by firing his shot low past Cartagenas helpless keeper. It got worse on 40 mins, when Cartagenas exciting young striker Carmona, stupidly got himself sent off for a 2nd bookable offence, leaving his team mates to play the remaining 50 mins a man short.
Straight from the restart, on came subs Juvenal and Chito, both injecting much needed enthusiasm into a team playing way below par. Chance after chance went begging for Sivori, Lusarreta, Mariano, Molist and Juvenal, during an opening 30 min purple patch enjoyed by Cartagena. As so often happens, when a team applies constant pressure, the rearguard become vulnerable to a counter attack. And so it came to pass. A threatening solo run by Alvaro was allowed to continue unchecked, culminating in a fierce drive past Caballero, effectively killing off any chances of a Cartagena revival. Parity, regarding the number of players, was restored when Mazarrons Llamas was shown his 2nd yellow, but by then a Cartagena come back looked as likely as the torries winning a snap general election (mores the pity!!). Ref Montoro dished out an unlucky 13 cards, upsetting both sets of players and fans. A further 6 Mazarron players, plus Cabrejo, Orlando and Mariano were booked, whilst boss Alcoy was reported for his post match choice comments to the over officious arbitro.
So, on a weekend when Harrys boys broke the record for aggregate number of goals scored in an English Premier League match, by beating Reading 7-4, Cartagena once again failed dismally to add to their solo point gained on the road this season.
