STALEMATE AT CARTAGONOVA STADIUM
FC CARTAGENA - 0 CD ALCALA - 0
BY STEVE HIBBERD
FC Cartagena threw away a much needed first win under new manager Pichi Lucas, when they could only draw with mid table Alcala.
Following on from last weeks humiliating 3-0 thrashing at Merida, the Navy town side were desperate to shine and impress their new boss. They did everything but score, as they completely dominated the match, but hey, it's goals that count in football, and once again Los Albinegros will rue the many missed chances on offer. Although club captain Sivori is still missing through injury, the only notable absence was that of centre back Lusarreta, suspended as a result of being sent off at Merida.
So, Cartagena have now slipped to 9th position in div 2b, but they are still only 7 points behind leaders Ecija as the season enters the half way stage.
It will be interesting to see if the club invest in any new players during Januarys transfer window, for the lack of goals scored is definately becomming a worry. The sacking of Fran Alcoy was not totally unexpected, but new man Pichi Lucas has certainly got it all to do if a play off slot is to be secured. He has promised 'pretty attacking football', which he successfully employed during last seasons promotion to div 2a with his previous club, Ponferridina.
The league now embarks on a Xmas and New Year break, before restarting the season with a visit to bottom of the table Algeciras on Sunday 6 January, ko 5pm.
