BRING ON THE NEW SEASON
BY STEVE HIBBERD
Following a more than satisfactory pre-season, FC Cartagena embark apon another div 2b campaign in supreme confidence.
When you consider that only 6 players remain from last season, it is testiment to manager Fabri Gonzales man management and tactical awareness, that his side have blended in so well.
The last 2 friendly matches ended with mixed results.
Ontinyent - 2 FC Cartagena - 1
A well worked move after 34 mins, resulted in Koeman notching a deserved goal. Fortunes changed dramatically in the 2nd half, for not only did Ontinyent dominate, but Cartagena were reduced to 10 men. Gonzalo on 50 mins, then Diego 15 mins later, gave Ontinyent the lead. Just when you thought that David Charcos had turned over a new leaf, he goes back to his old self. Barely 3 mins remained, when Charcos clumsy lunge in the penalty area, prematurely ended his part in the game. Goalkeeper Castilla made amends, making a great save, which is rapidly becoming his trademark.
Cieza - 0 FC Cartagena - 3
Against 3rd div Cieza, Cartagena settled into cruise mode, playing attractive, inventive football. A brace inside the first 8 mins by Mena was a clear sign of things to come. When Carmona hit a beauty on 69 mins to make the score 0-3, the game was over as a contest, and once again manager Gonzales came away with plenty of positive points from his hard working team.
FORTHCOMING FIXTURE
