UNBEATEN RUN BITES THE DUST
CDA NAVALCARNERO - 1 FC CARTAGENA - 0
BY STEVE HIBBERD
A penalty after 70 mins, was enough to condemn Cartagena to their first div 2b defeat of the season. This defeat also sees Los Albinegros relinquish top spot, as they slip down the table to 3rd place, on 14 points from the 7 games played. Madrid based Navalcarnero mastered the artificial surface, inside their Mariano Gonzalez Stadium, better than a complacent looking Cartagena side. Early exchanges proved evenly matched, although Cartagena had strong appeals for a penalty turned down after 25 mins. Juan Pablo had 2 great shots well saved on 30, and then 40 mins, but it was Navalcarnero who almost took the lead just before the half time interval, goalkeeper Ruben coming to his teams rescue.
Navalcarnero started the 2nd half brightly, almost scoring on 3 occasions before eventually taking the lead with 20 mins remaining. A reckless challenge by Miki Roque, resulted in the ensuing penalty being converted. Although Cartagena huffed and puffed, they couldn't bring down a well organised home defence wall, which protected their keeper superbly, reducing the opposition to long range shots.
Attendance - 1,000
