El Cartagena se suicido. By Steve.

CARTAGENA COMMIT SUICIDEAD
ALCORCON - 3 FC CARTAGENA - 2
BY STEVE HIBBERD

A despicable moment of inefficient linesmanship, plus a suicidal backpass, both deep into stoppage time, turned a certain Cartagena victory against 10 men Alcorcon into a hard to bare defeat. Going into this game against relegation haunted Alcorcon, Cartagena were div 2b pace setters, and also the in form team. Although suspension ruled out Mariano for this trip to the Madrid suburbs of Alcorcon, manager Fabri surprisingly chose to make a number of other changes to the starting line up. On a bitterly cold late Sunday afternoon, I was only too pleased to be watching the game inside a warm front room, courtesy of Murcia based tv company channel 7. The initial 25 mins were nothing short of dire, but I was prevented from dozzing off by the games first goal. A left wing cross was headed down inside Cartagenas penalty area for Alcorcons Nevado to slot the ball past a hesitant Ruben. That was just about it regarding noteworthy action in the 1st half. On 64 mins, Alcorcons defender Tito picked up his 2nd booking (his 1st arrived only 4 mins before), and was duly sent off. The double substitution of Mena and Juan Pablo after 72 mins seemed to inject much needed urgency into the Cartagena side.

Minutes later, a Nano cross cum shot looped just over an outstretched keeper into the net, giving Cartagena a deserved equalizer. When Addison volleyed home a Juan Pablo assist on 89 mins, it looked like the points were in the bag. But, and this is a huge but, a Mickey Mouse linesman had not been accounted for. In the 91st min, a through ball reached a player who was a good 5 yards offside, who in turn slotted the ball home. Even though the ref was persuaded to consult senor Mouse, who nonchalently shook his head, a soul destroying goal was allowed to stand. Two mins later another Miki, this time Miki Roque, took centre stage. Under no pressure whatsoever, the Liverpool loanee inexplicitly played aweak backpass, intended for Ruben, into the path of a marauding Alcorcon striker. Wham bam thankyou mam, 3-2 to the home side. Unbelievable or what?Cartagena lineupRuben, Leo, Aguilar, Miki Roque, Cabrejo, Carmona, Falcon, Eloy (Juan Pablo), Nano (Vuyiuela), Addison, Tato (Mena)Forthcoming Fixture On Sunday 7 December, ko 5pm, Cartagena host Real Madrid ´B´.
