Cartagena uno, entretenimiento cero. By Steve.

CARTAGENA ONE ENTERTAINMENT ZERO
FC CARTAGENA - 1 REAL UNION - 0
BY STEVE HIBBERD

Make no bones about it, this match was dire!! But even though it lacked any entertainment value, it did produced another 3 valuable div 2a points, maintaining Cartagena's place in the top 3. The first half was about as interesting as listening to a Gordon Brown political broadcast speech!! Neither keeper had a save to make, as both sides seemed content to pass the ball to their opponents - perhaps the soaking wet conditions dampened their ambitions? In fact, it wasn't until the hour mark that any significant incident occurred. Cartagena substitute Panamanian Quintero, jinxed his way into the penalty area, only to be clearly shoved off the ball. According to MOTD experts, he possibly went down too easily, but to agree with that is just a kop out - the referee got it wrong. De Lucas burst onto the scene shortly afterwards, when his angled shot eased the wrong side of the far post. On 68 mins, Cartagena deservedly took the lead. Top scorer Toche was almost cut into two inside the penalty area, an appeal which even this extremely cautious referee could not refuse. Up stepped De Lucas, to strike home a perfect spot kick, sending the keeper the wrong way. Real Unions first shot on goal almost produced an equalising goal, but thankfully the base of the post came to the home sides rescue.

Next week, Saturday 20 February ko 6pm, Cartagena are away at basement side Castellon, for another div 2a fixture. For up to date information on all goings on at FC Cartagena, visit www.gotocartago.com or www.futbolclubcartagena.com.
