FC CARTAGENA ROUND-UP
BY STEVE HIBBERD
Averaging 2 pre-season friendlies a week, Los Albinegros are certainly getting plenty of match practice in before the new div 2a season commences on 28 or 29 August, with an away trip to Xerez. On Weds 11 Aug, the Bernal Moreno Stadium in Alcoy, hosted the first away friendly of the 4 scheduled. It was here, only 2 seasons ago, that Cartagena won a play off match that secured promotion from div 2b, but this time around the result was reversed. Cartagena started brightly enough, opening the scoring on 11 mins through a powerful long range drive by new signing Goiria. The lead lasted only 3 mins, before Gato scored from what appeared to be an impossible angle. Alcoyano had more of the play in the 2nd half, making the game safe with 2 goals by Olcina on 50 and 71 mins, eventually winning the game 3-1. The following Sat, div 3 side Jumilla were the hosts. Inside the Polideportivo la Hoya, Cartagena ran out 2-1 victors, courtesy of a 46th min own goal by Juancris and an 81st min winner by Arturo (his 3rd in all friendlies so far). Sandwiched in between, Joseto scored for the home side on 56 mins, but Cartagena just about deserved to win.
Many thanks Steve
