Continua la sequía goleadora. By Steve.

THE GOAL DROUGHT CONTINUES
FC CARTAGENA - 0 REAL VALLADOLID - 0
BY STEVE HIBBERD

For the 2nd consecutive week, Los Albinegros took a valuable point off high flying div 2a opposition. Against 2nd place Valladolid, Paco Lopez side more than equipped themselves, thoroughly deserving a share of the points. Unfortunately, other results did not go their way, with the upshot being a return to the foot of the table. The first 20 minutes were pretty mundane, but shots by first Moral, then Goiria, came close to opening the scoring for Cartagena. Valladolid came alive on the half hour mark when Oscar chipped keeper Reina, and luckily for the home side, the bar as well.

They should have gone ahead on 33 minutes, but a close range drive by Oscar rattled the cross bar, before bouncing to safety. Cartagena were to finish the 1st half stronger of the 2 sides, as first Dimas, then Alvaro, watched as their efforts sailed over the bar. Home keeper Reina pulled off a great save from Oscar on 52 minutes, then 4 minutes later Marquitos shot wide, as Valladolid threatened to take control. Back came Cartagena, and twice within a minute, could have taken the lead. First Alvaro shot over, then Dimas had a downward header well saved, as this very even contest edged towards a conclusion. Another super save by Reina denied the impressive Oscar, as the visitors laid siege to goal for the final 10 minutes. Having soaked up the pressure, Cartagena themselves had the last word 2 minutes inside stoppage time, when substitute Lafuente struck a long range shot over the bar.

Next up for Cartagena is a trip to 13th place Numancia on Saturday 3 December, ko 6pm. For regular updates on FC Cartagena, check out www.nosoloefe.es or www.futbolclubcartagena.com.
