Victoria con entrenador nuevo. By Steve.

GREAT WIN FOR NEW MANAGER
FC CARTAGENA - 2 SD HUESCA - 0
BY STEVE HIBBERD

First half goals by Dimas and Chamorro (both 1sts of the season), signalled a welcome debut victory for new manager Carlos Rios. Cartagena started the new year firmly rooted to the bottom of div 2a, but these well earned 3 points lifts them up a place. Following a pathetic defeat to Xerez just before Xmas, club president Paco Gomez decided that the only present he would be giving manager Javi Lopez, would be the sack (and I'm not talking of the material kind!!).

Ruthless Gomez wasted no time in appointing Carlos Rios as the clubs THIRD manager of the season - this follows a win'less run of 7 matches, in which only ONE goal was scored. Carlos Rios immediately got off on the right foot in my estimation, when he left out the hopeless Spanish donkey, who goes by the name of Goiria (Gloria). Los Albinegros started brightly, Mariano just missing the target with a firm header after 8 mins. Collantes came close with a long range drive, before the home side took the lead on 25 mins. Not renowned for his attacking prowess, full back Dimas found himself in a good position to lash home a loose ball beyond the reach of keeper Garcia. Only 6 mins had elapsed before the lead had doubled. A glorious pass by the impressive Lafuente found the unmarked Chamorro, who from 5 yards out, hammered the ball into the back of the net. In a half dominated by Cartagena, Collantes once again came close to adding to the score on 42 mins, before on the stroke of half time, Reina saved well from Huesca striker Camacho.

New half, same story. Twice in the opening 2 mins, Carlos Rios black and white army, forced fine saves from the over worked Garcia. First off, he got down well to deny Chamorro adding to his tally, then from the very next attack, the giant striker repeated the feat. The game then developed into a scrappy affair, not helped by fussy refereeing by Senor Mariscal, who along with a couple of visiting players, booked Dimas, Txiki, Reina and Herrero. Hearts were in home fans mouths when on 79 mins, a powerful long range drive by the dangerous Camacho, brought off a spectacular save from Reina, who for long periods had been a mere spectator. Substitute Marc had the final word deep into 5 mins of stoppage time, when the home striker unleashed a fierce drive which was once again well saved by the excellent Garcia.
