AD CEUTA - 0 FC CARTAGENA - 0
BY STEVE HIBBERD
Following on from last weeks superb win against Extremadura, it was off the field politics which unfortunately stole the headlines.
Yet another casualty of the on-off transfer saga involving Abel from Salamanca, resulted in David Amaral packing his bags and returning to his home in Tenerife. Caretaker manager for this trip to Moroccos mainland, was newly appointed technical director Pedro Arango. Whilst not scoring many goals, 16th place Ceuta also boasted a similar goals against statistic of only 12. Lusurreta and Chito started the game instead of squad player Camano and the injured Teo.
CARTAGENA TEAM
CABRERO, LEO, ORLANDO, LUSARRETA, CABREJO, MARIANO, SIVORI, MOLIST (ELIAS 53), MARCO (CARMONA 74), CHITO (LAFUENTE 63), SABINO
The fact that Cartagena were playing an offensive team from the outset, indicated that the divisions top scorers with 38 goals, wished to add to that tally. A lack of early goalscoring opportunities was broken when cabrero saved firstly from Herrera, then Ceutas debutant Quero. Just before the interval, Sabinos snap shot brought off a good save from Ceutas keeper Basuri.
Half Time: Cueta - 0 Cartagena - 0
In a game of few chances, Mariano almost snatched an opener for Cartagena, when his bullet like header beat Ceutas goalie, only for full back Barruzo to come to his teams rescue by blocking it on the line. Minutes later, it was Sivories turn to test the resiliance of Ceutas defence, when his fine effort was well saved. Apart from a half hearted penalty appeal from Ceuta, the 2nd period belonged almost exclusively to Los Albinegros. Within 2 mins, Sivori and then Lafuente had great chances to open their account, but Ceutas goal remained intact. The games final action, well into stoppage time, involved team captain Sivori, shooting straight at Ceutas keeper, when faced with a 1 on 1 situation.
Attendance: 1,200
FORTHCOMING FIXTURE
President Paco Gomez hopes to announce Cartagenas new manager before the weekends fixture. Once again, Los Albinegros must travel. Newly promoted Cerro Reyes, based at their compact Estadio Jose Pache de Badajoz, are the hosts for this div 2b clash on Sun 21 Jan, ko 1130 hrs.
