CARTAGENA LOSE DERBY ENCOUNTER
LORCA CF - 1 FC CARTAGENA - 0
BY STEVE HIBBERD
A single goal, on the hour mark, was enough for Lorca to sink a poor Cartagena side in this latest Murcian derby.
Back in September, Cartagena totally outplayed a shellshocked Lorca side, but unfortunately, the 2 teams progress since then have differed dramatically. For whilst Lorca have lifted themselves out of the relegation zone, Cartagena appear to be in total freefall. Victories are becomming scarcer than silverware at Newcastle, meaning that although still in 11th slot, they are now only 2 points off relegation play off (4 teams automatically go down, whilst 5th bottom are involved in play off matches).
Fans are staying away in droves, as week after week a disorganised bunch of players are sadly underperforming. Manager Pichi Lucas must now be seriously worrying how long he can continue in his role, as club President Paco Gomez does not suffer fools gladly. Lucas has been tinkering with his side for weeks now, in the vain hope of finding a winning formula. Apart from a win at bottom club Algeciras on 6 Jan, it is now a run of 5 matches without a win. At lorca, the home side took the game by the scruff of the neck, as Cartagena never really threatened a well organised defence. Although recent team captain Orlando was missing through suspension, there was no place in the starting line up for seasoned players Cabrejo and Molist.
FC Cartagena line-up
CABALLERO, LEO, CHARCOS, LUSARRETA, ROCHA, CURRO, MARIANO, ALCANTARA, LAFUENTE, KOEMAN, TOLEDO
FORTHCOMING FIXTURE
On Sun 17 Feb ko 12 am, Cartagena embark on another local Murcian derby. Mazarron CF visit Cartagonova Stadium, only 1 point below their hosts in this div 2b clash.
