Un maravilloso gol de Cabrejo sentencia el derbi. By Steve.

CABREJO WONDER GOAL SEALS DERBY VICTORY
FC CARTAGENA - 2 MAZARRON CF - 0
BY STEVE HIBBERD

Although not the most interesting game ever witnessed at Cartagonova Stadium, it had got to the stage where Cartagena were just pleased to collect 3 points, no matter how ugly the performance.
In fairness, had Mazarron been a half decent side, then the home side would have been dead and buried long before Cabrejos dramatic goal inside 3 mins of 2nd half stoppage time. Mazarron were awful. Apart from a superb drive which hit the post, and another headed effort which just cleared the crossbar midway through the 2nd half, the away side were content to leave with a point. Make no bones about it though, Los Albinegros wern't much better. They seemed totally void of any imaginative play, not helped by Mazarrons negative tactics. I looked up at the stadium clock on 20 mins, and honestly could not remember any incident of note (not even a booking!), On the half hour mark, Juvenal almost broke the deadlock, but his 25 yd free kick sailed agonizingly past the post. Koeman completely lost his bearings and shot past the post when put through on goal, before Mazarron headed just past the far post from a corner.

The first real incident of note in the 2nd half produced the games opening goal. A teasing cross by the marauding full back Leo, was met by Toledo whose glancing header squeezed just inside the far post, much to the delight of the recently off form striker. Now it was all Cartagena. Lafuente produced another of this mazy solo runs which was comfortably saved, and then a lovely 1-2 between Benitez and Toledo resulted in the latter rounding the keeper only for a defender to make a last ditch clearance. The 100 or so Mazarron fans seated in rows, most proudly wearing their little red baseball hats and scarfs, resembling cute little garden gnomes, at last came to life, when their team hit a purple patch midway through the 2nd half. Back came Cartagena, with both substitute Carmona then Toledo coming close to extending their teams lead. Finally, deep into the 3rd min of stoppage time Mazarron were awarded a corner. Their keeper came upfield to challenge for the loose ball, but was left stranded as the ball was cleared straight to the feet of Cabrejo. Realising the situation, the diminutive full back expertly lobbed the ball into an empty net from fully 45 yds, as the whole stadium exploded into raptures of delight (excluding the gnomes of Mazarron that is!!). On the booking front, the count was 4 apiece - Leo, Koeman, Molist and Mariano being Cartagenas naughty boys (Leo and Mariano now being close to suspension).
Revenge is sweet - this result reversed the thrashing when Cartagena visited Mazarron earlier in the season, also extended the gap between the 2 sides in the league. Cartagena have now moved up to 10th on 34 points, whilst Mazarron are only a point from the relegation slots. Then later that day, another last gasp winner occurred at Prestons Deepdale, when the mighty Pompey somewhat fortuitously crept into the last 8 of the FA Cup (about time they had some luck!).
Attendance - 1,500

FORTHCOMING FIXTURE
Up next for FC Cartagena is an away trip to Marbella. Early in the season, Marbella inflicted the first home defeat for Cartagena, so a reversal of fortune would be nice. The game is on Sun 24 Feb, with another early ko time of 12 oclock midday.
