LAFUENTE GOAL NOT ENOUGH

A 2nd minute goal by diminutive winger Ander Lafuente was cruelly cancelled out by a laughable 2nd half penalty, giving Baza a share of the points.
After last weeks disastrous home defeat, Cartagena needed to take maximum points from this match, but as has happened so often this season, they blew it!! Although it is still mathematically possible for Los Albinegros to snatch a play off place, they have about as much chance as there being a fair election in Zimbabwe!! They were certainly suffering a hangover from last week, when once again, failure to retain the lead has cost them dearly.
It looked so rosy, when Lafuente converted Rochas inch perfect cross. Baza desperately needed the points themselves, for they are only 2 points off the relegation zone. It took a great save from Cartagenas recalled goalie Alejandro, to deny Bazas Duran from equalizing on 11 minutes. Lusarreta came close when his powerful header inched just over the bar, before Bazas wing man Marc shot shaved the far post.

Straight from the 2nd half kick off, Benitez wasted a glorious opportunity when he blasted over from close range. The home side took the game by the scruff of the neck, creating numerous chances. Full back Ormazabal headed wide, then Rocha saw his 20 yard screamer superbly saved. Benitez again shot wide, before Molist looked to have scored, but it was the side of the net that rippled. When the dangerous Mikel was brought down, it was quite clearly a good yard outside Cartagenas penalty area. Unfortunately, referee Moreno had other ideas, and pointed to the spot. Jurado coolly converted, then proceeded to taunt Cartagena fans with his exaggerated celebrations. Well inside 4 minutes of stoppage time, the annoying Jurado missed a sitter, with an open goal at his mercy, much to the delight of the Cartagena faithful. With the last kick of the game his Baza colleague Marc, incredibly squandered an equally as opportunity chance, much to the relief of a sadly underperforming Cartagena team. Sivori and Ormazabal picked up bookings, whereas the little angels from Baza didn´t!
Cartagena stay in 8th place, but as results when their way, they are now only 5 points off the final play off slot.
