Fin a una temporada exitosa. By Steve.

CARTAGENA END SEASON IN STYLE
CADIZ CF - 1 FC CARTAGENA - 1
BY STEVE HIBBERD

On Sat 6 Jun 09, Cartagena played out a hard fought draw inside the Ramon de Carranza stadium, although it was hosts Cadiz who were crowned div 2b champion of champions. Trailing 1-2 from the previous weeks 1st leg defeat at Cartagonova stadium, Cartagena never really looked like overturning that deficit. Having played their first div 2b group 2 match way back in Aug 08, Cartagenas overworked players (the squad is quite small) really needed these extra 2 matches like a hole in the head!! The same could be said for Cadiz, who started their group 4 campaign on exactly the same day. But all that really matters, is that next season FC Cartagena will be in div 2a, playing the likes of recently relegated prem div teams Real Betis, Numancia and Recreativo Huelva, arch rivals Real Murcia, and a host of Valencian and Catalan based sides. Not only this, but the travelling players and fans will be able to enjoy modern day stadiums (more in keeping with Cartagonova stadium), and not tin pot grounds that are mainly evident in div 2b!!
Although manager Paco Jemez deserves the highest accolade for leading his troops to promotion, that apparently is not enough for president Paco Gomez. Bizarrely (and this could only happen here in Spain), Gomez has decided that Jemez does not have what it takes to manage a team in div 2a, and has therefore not renewed his contract (he's sacked him!!). Who will replace him is any one's guess, but you can bet that he will be inundated with cvs from out of work managers, plus those currently employed, but who could do with a pay rise!!

One player missing from the lineup was Raul, who had been rushed to hospital with appendicitis earlier during the week. The first half was evenly matched, the deadlock broken when Rubiato scored with ease after 34 mins, adding to the 2 goals he scored in the 1st leg (rumour has it that he is high on Cartagenas want list). Four mins later, centre back Armando rose majestically to firmly plant his header into the back of the net. Unfortunately, the game never reached the high pitched fever of the 1st leg, but had it not been for Castilla, in goal for Cartagena, then the home side would have won by a landslide, as they launched wave after wave of attacks during the 2nd half. Referee Gonzalez
controlled the game sensibly, booking only Mena from Cartagena, plus 2 players from Cadiz.
Attendance - 7,500
Cartagena line-up
