El Cartagena cierra la temporada. By Steve.

Following the previous weeks demolition job of Villarreal, Cartagena ended a season to forget with a deserved victory at lowly Huelva. Since relegation to div 2b has been confirmed, Carlos Rios's men have done what they should have been doing all season - performing with flair and confidence! Inside Nuevo Colombino Stadium, only 3,500 bothered watching, what in reality, was a 'nothing match'. The first half started off in tentative fashion, and it wasn't until the 11th min before Braulio had a shot on goal well saved by the Huelva keeper. Midway through the half, an excellent through ball found Collantes, who having beaten the offside trap, ran from just inside the opponents half, before placing a low drive beyond the keeper.

Towards the end of the half, twas the visitors who doubled their advantage. From a counter attack, Lafuante, then Braulio, fed the ball to Hector Font, whose assist provided Anton the perfect opportunity to score at the far post. Huelva started the 2nd half in a much more positive frame of mind, with Berrocal heading wide from a corner shortly after the restart. Unlike the first half (in which Huelva failed to put in a shot on goal), the 2nd half was all the home side. Chuti, Aitor, Berrocal and Matamala, all had good attempts on goal, before the latter took the ball past keeper Reina, only to shoot over the bar. Home fans were booing and whistling their under performing players for long periods, interrupted briefly when Berrocal scored from a header in the 75th min. With less than 10 mins remaining, the same player should have added to his goal tally, but from a good position shot wide.
