Tres de una tacada.
El nuevo Cartagena comienza a formarse. By Steve.
THADER ROJALES - 1 FC CARTAGENA - 3
BY STEVE HIBBERD
Against an over physical Thader side, Cartagena eventually ran out easy winners in this 2nd pre-season friendly match.
Unfortunately, Thaders officials must have failed to inform their players that the word 'friendly', means just that!! No less that 4 yellow cards were brandished by a no nonsense, but very efficient referee, in the direction of the home sides players, who seemed intent on kicking the visitors off the park. Late on, Cartagenas Curro did pick up a booking, but by then it was very much a case of self preservation.
An extremely dull 1st half, only came to life just before half time, when Cartagenas new defender Ormazabal was judged to have handled just inside the penalty area. Although Thader scored from the spot, the chance of a quick equaliser was spawned, when trialist Koeman headed wide with the goal at his mercy.
Los Albinegros entered the 2nd half with all guns blazing. Following on from an early free kick which was turned over the bar for a corner, resultant play culminated in a close range effort by Ruben hitting the post, although the ever alert Molist was at hand to hammer home the rebound. Midway through the half, Molists accurate header gave the keeper no chance, as Cartagena deservedly took the lead for the 1st time. When a delightful through ball found Molist in an onside position, you just knew that the in form striker would go on to complete his hat trick. It's now 5 goals in 2 games for last seasons top scorer, and although they have come against lesser opposition, his manager must be pleased with the manner in which they have been executed. Late on, a Chito free kick and a poor header from Ruben, should really have given the scoreline a more realistic look, in a game which Cartagena showed good discipline, composure and commitment.
COPA DEL REY
In the 1st round of the Copa del Rey (Spanish FA Cup), FC Cartagena have been drawn away to 3rd div Granada Atletico on Weds 29 Aug.
COMINGS AND GOINGS
Taking the squad numbers up to 15, another player has signed on the dotted line. Juvenal Edjogo Owono Montalban has certainly done the rounds. Former clubs include Espanol, Levante, Racing Santander, Castellon, Alaves, Huelva and most recently Tenerife. The 32 year old midfielder has full international caps, gained whilst representing his homeland, Ecuatorial Guinea. Juvenal made his debut in the friendly against Thader, where he made a promising start.
Alas, we must bid fond farewells to 3 crowd favourites. Giant centre back Oscar Rodriguez has reluctantly joined Portuense, whilst midfielders Elias and Marco (instantly recognisable by their snazzy hairbands!) have joined Ponferridina.

By Steve.
LOS ALBINEGROS GO MAD IN LA MANGA
BY STEVE HIBBERD
FC Cartagena made light work of beating local rivals Cartagena FC, totally destroying them 9-0, in the 1st pre-season friendly match which was played at the La Manga Club complex last Sunday.
Playing a combination of regulars, new signings and trialists, Los Albinegros made their intentions clear straight from the start, when after barely a minutes play, last seasons top score Xavi Molist converted a well placed cross from the right. In similar circumstances, predator Molist doubled his goal tally 6 minutes later, before a fierce 25 yard free kick by Carmona made it 3-0, with only 18 minutes gone. Sporting their new home kit, Fran Alcoys men were playing with oodles of confidence. The games only booking arrived when an ageing referee clamped down on numerous unnecessary fouls from behind on Captain Marvel, Sivori of Los Albinegros. On the half hour mark, Mariano Sanchez headed home goal number 4, then 10 mins later, Sivori rammed home the fifth. Now it was raining goals - and on a regular basis. Just before half time, Sivori helped himself to his 2nd, followed by a 1st for trialist Koeman. When the referee brought 1st half proceedings to a close, Los Albinegros new keeper Alejandro had barely had a save to make, whilst his opposite number (who incidentally wore the no 90 jersey - American football anyone?) performed heroics to keep the scoreline down to an emphatic 7-0.
As is the norm with friendlies, wholesale changes were made by both sides in the 2nd half. One such sub, trialist Jose Ruben, made it 8-0, showing plenty of promise to warrant a further run out next week. Although Carmona scored his 2nd and the teams 9th goal, opportunities to reach double figures were few, as stout defending by hard working opponents prevented further humiliation.
To anyone who attended the match, expecting an 8pm ko, I must offer an apology. With only a days notice, the ko time was brought forward to 6.30pm - but hey folks, this is Spain (tranquilo, no pasa nada!!).
COMINGS AND GOINGS
Takings the squad number up to 16, another 2 new players have signed on the dotted line. Frenchman Philippe Toledo, has joined from Elche. Striker Toledo from Avignon has done the rounds, plying his trade at Zaragoza 'B' (where he scored 18 goals), Levente 'B' and Elche. Adding to the cosmopolitan feel, Juvenal Edjogo Owono Montalban has arrived for Tenerife. Midfielder Juvenal has full International caps, gained whilst representing his homeland, Ecuatorial Guinea. Former clubs include Espanol, Levante, Santander, Castellon, Alaves, Huelva and Tenerife.
Alas, we must bid a fond farewell to 3 crowd favourites. Giant centre back Oscar Rodriguez has reluctantly joined Portuense, whilst midfielders Elias and Marco (instantly recognisable by their snazzy hairbands!) have joined Ponferridina.
FORTHCOMING FIXTURE
Newly promoted 3rd division side CD Thader of Rojales, host the next pre-season warm up. A change from the original scheduled opposition (Totana), Thader should provide a much sterner test for Los Albinegros. CD Thader v FC Cartagena is on Sunday 29 July, with an official ko time of 8pm. Further information on FC Cartagena is available by phoning Steve on 656579423.

By Steve.
BY STEVE HIBBERD
Although reinforcements in the goalkeeping and strikeforce departments are still required, coach Fran Alcoy and his assistant Perico Arango, are slowly building a new side for next season.
The latest capture is 32 year old central defender, David Charcos. Signed from div 2a side Salamanca, Charcos joins Curro, Asier Ormazabal and Marcos Ortega as one of the few new recruits. It seems that no sooner has the club signed a new player, than others are on their way out. Full back Rivas has ended his short reign at the club, by joining div 2b side Pontevedra. Also heading to Northern Spain is Cabrero. At times his performances were slightly eccentric, but generally he performed well in his role of 2nd choice goalkeeper. Cabrero has been transferred to recently relegated to div 2b, Ponferridina. Interestingly, Ponferridina are managed by ex Los Albinegros coach of last season, David Amaral, and boast the fact that amongst their staunchest supporters, is none other than Spains President Zapatero (aka Mr Bean!!).
Next seasons fixture list still hasn't been released, but another friendly has been added to the list. It's on Sunday 22 July (ko tbn) at the La Manga Club Stadium, against Preferente league side Cartagena FC. So that's FC Cartagena v Cartagena FC (confused? you will be!!), as the 1st warm up match of 6.

¿ A quién "salvamos", concejal ?.

By Steve.
STATUS QUO FOR FC CARTAGENA
BY STEVE HIBBERD
As expected, next season FC Cartagena will be playing their football in division 2b group iv, following a recent Spanish FA committee meeting in Madrid.
No less that 7 changes have been made from last seasons divisional composition. Lorca have been relegated from div 2a, whilst Talavera have switched groups, arriving from the mainly central Spain group ii. The 5 newly promoted teams from div 3 are: Real Betis ´B´, Algeciras, Lucena, Puertollano and Mazarron. Geographically, 11 or the the 20 teams are from Andalucia, with the remaining 9 teams spread over a further 4 regions:
ANDALUCIA - Linares, Portuense, Jaen, Marbella, Ecija,
Baza, Granada, Alcala, Real Betis ´B´,
Algeciras and Lucena
MURCIA - Lorca, Mazarron, Aguilas and Cartagena
CASTILLA LA MANCHA - Puertollano and Talavera
EXTREMADURA - Merida
NORTH AFRICA - Cueta and Melilla
NEW SIGNING
Asier Ormazabel Larizgoita has signed transfer forms, making him Los Albinegros 3rd new signing of the season. Moving from Pontevedra, the Basque man will be employed on the right wing, hopefully providing many assists to Molist, Sivori and a new target man, who should be arriving very soon.
ADIOS TOON ARMY, HOLA RAMS
A new change of shirts has been announced for next season. Out go the old Newcastle style black and white stripes, being replaced with a plain white shirt which is similar in design to that of Derby County. The away shirt has also changed colour. Orange replaces last seasons Mauve (or was it purple, maroon or claret?), as one to be worn in the event of a colour clash.
PRE SEASON FRIENDLIES
Two more friendly warm up matches have been announced:
29 July - Totana v FC Cartagena
5 August - Torrievieja v FC Cartagena
