As FC Cartagena embark on a new season in div 2b, it will be within the less familiar group 2, and not group 4, where they have been playing for the last 4 seasons. Contrary to the Spanish FAs previous announcement that Los Albinegros had been placed in group 3, they have, in their wisdom, decided that they should play in group 2. This is a totally ludicrous decision, as this group is spread geographically hundreds of miles apart.
The makeup of the new group 2 is as follows:
Real Murcia 'B'
Aguilas
Lorca
Cartagena
Ciudad Lorqui
Sangonera
MADRID
Real Madrid 'B'
Atletico Madrid 'B'
Leganes
Alcorcon
EXTREMADURA
Merida
LA RIOJA
Logrones
CANARIES
Fuerteventura
Lanzarote
Navalcarnero
Pajara
Las Palmas University
Vecindario
Villa De Santa Brigida
Las Palmas
It is hard enough for teams in div 2b to get promoted (even when champions, teams still have to enter play offs!!), but the travel and costs involved, not to mention the recruitment of new players, makes this latest farce nothing less than soul destroying. I hope and pray that there is still another twist (this time more favourable) to this saga, but it does seem done and dusted.
Defender Cristian Urbistando Lopez (TXIQUI) (try pronouncing that one!), has joined the club from Ceuta. Also recently arrived, is Hector from Las Palas, making the number of players signed on for next season at 14.
